I’m late to the party, but check out this series of 7 music videos that was created by Israeli musician Ophis Kutiel. By splicing together samples from around 100 other YouTube videos, Kutiel has created a surprisingly refined album of work that could launch another meme.
Sampling is certainly not a new concept, and even YouTube sampling has been done before. But this project has exceeded anything else that I’ve seen in complexity and execution.
Techcrunch also noted another fascinating tidbit about this launch: it was driven almost completely by Twitter. Supposedly people close the project emailed a small collection of YouTube users for permission to use their work, and then it started spreading through the microblogsphere. $0 spent on advertising, over 1 million views, 7 days.
